the McLean County AIDS Taskforce
The McLean County AIDS Task Force is committed to:
Providing peer counseling about HIV/AIDS, including community resources, risk reduction, HIV antibody testing, and clinical trials
Providing individuals and service organizations with a central clearinghouse for current information on the medical, social, and ethical aspects of HIV/AIDS
Assisting volunteers and organizations in identifying the needs of people impacted by HIV/AIDS, and in developing and coordinating non-duplicative resources
Offering or facilitating direct services in response to unmet needs, and acting as an advocate for people impacted by HIV/AIDS
Contributing to development of enlightened, rational, and humane HIV/AIDS-related policies in public and private sectors

The McLean County AIDS Task Force trains volunteers to
provide a variety of direct services:
"Buddy" System - A buddy provides one-on-one assistance, information, companionship, and emotional support to people who have HIV or AIDS.
- Independent Living Support - Volunteers provide occasional or scheduled assistance in day-to-day activities in the home.
- Hospital Visitation - Volunteers are matched for the duration of a hospital stay. They provide information and emotional support to the individual and to his or her family and friends.
- Transportation - Volunteers provide rides to and from appointments.
- Pastoral Care - Volunteer clergy provide a source of spiritual counseling on request.
- Peer Support - Volunteers provide short-term, one-on-one emotional support and information on request, either to someone who has HIV or AIDS, or to a caregiver, family member, significant other, friend, or other volunteer.
- Non-Therapeutic Support Groups - Groups meets regularly to provide
emotional support and information.
Separate groups are available for
those who have HIV or AIDS and for those who are caregivers, volunteers,
family and friends in support of someone who has HIV or AIDS. Call

- Emergency Financial Assistance - Limited assistance is available for direct support of our clients in several areas: rent and utilities, food, medical and dental care, and transportation.

PhoneLine, Resource Library and
Office
Trained peer
counselors provide information and referrals concerning HIV/AIDS and McLean
County AIDS Task Force programs. All calls are handled
confidentially. The Office and Resource Library are located at 313 N. Main
Street, in downtown Bloomington, Illinois (see map).
Newspapers, magazines, books and tapes provide information on HIV/AIDS and other
GLBTQ issues.
and a large variety of informative pamphlets
in English and Spanish are available for the taking. Visitors are always
welcome.
MCATF's PhoneLine service is very detailed and
can answer many of your questions. If we are not able to take your call,
feel free to leave a brief message. Remember to leave your number, as we
do not subscribe to Caller ID. We will return your call as soon as
possible.

Saturday evenings,
