HIV+ Support Groups
MCATF
HIV+ Support Group - This group
provides education and support to men and
women living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and/or acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Small group sessions help members cope
with their illness by increasing their knowledge of healthcare services as well
as by improving their support systems. Members participate in this group
by sharing their experiences with others who are HIV positive so that they may
learn from each other. The group provides participants with an opportunity to
build a network of support. Refreshments are served and bus tokens are
available.

Financial Assistance
Client Services offers $400/yr to HIV+ clients
enrolled in care Case Management
through HIHAC. We have no income requirements to receive assistance.
The financial assistance we offer is from money raised through local
fundraising events. We receive NO state or federal funding for this
purpose. Therefore, we can afford to be more flexible with what it is used
for. Some of the items we assist clients with include, but are by no means
a complete list: medical & prescription co-pays, eye care, dental care,
alternative therapies (massage, acupuncture, chiropractic), utility bills
(including basic phone service), monthly bus passes, bus tokens, mortgage
payment assistance, rent assistance, supplements, and even provide housing in
emergency situations.
MCATF Food Bank
The food bank is open and available to HIV+ infected /
affected persons in McLean & Livingston counties. Clients can drop by the
Connections Community Center most Friday & Saturday evenings to shop or call
the office to make an appointment.
If
you are HIV+ and have wish to use the MCATF Food Bank, you may reach us several
ways. If you receive HIV Prevention Case Management (PCM) /
Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services (CRCS), contact MCATF through your

comprehensive lending library of HIV-AIDS & GLBTQ-related magazines &
newspapers, HIV/AIDS literature, bathroom facilities, and a lounge area complete
with Sony PlayStation games, stereo, board games, videos, as well as a bag of

schedule private time to use the computer, call Ed Bruner @ 310-8423.
Buddy Program
Clients can request a "Buddy" to help with all kinds of
everyday activities. A buddy is not meant to be someone to do physical
work for a client, but someone to be a friend, someone to talk to about what
they're going through, someone that doesn't stereotype someone based upon their
sex, race, age, sexual orientation, or HIV status! A buddy might be
someone to go for a walk on Constitution Trail with, someone to share a day of
shopping with, or someone to call when things get rough.
Our clients are diverse as our Buddies should be! We
welcome people from all walks of life but come together for one cause ... to
help those with HIV & AIDS. For more information, call us @ 827-2437 and
let us know you're interested in becoming a Buddy.
Furniture and Small Appliances
Furniture and small appliance (e.g., microwaves, vacuum
cleaners, TV) donations are also appreciated. MCATF collects these
donations and store them at a downtown storage facility. Clients should
contact their case manager or client services directly to arrange to come see
what's new.
