AIDSWalk 2006
PICTURES UPDATED - 7/18/06
A
big thanks to Josh King, Denise Goff & Bruce Lang, Co-Chairs AIDSWalk Committee
for first ever AIDSWalk in McLean County. Held on Saturday, April
22nd at Withers Park in Bloomington, the walk went over to Atwood Station on Constitution Trail
and followed the trail north to Normal and back. In all, we walked nearly
5 miles.
A special award was given to Jan Lancaster, owner
of The Bistro and Lancaster's Fin e
Dining, in honor of her raising the most money. Through here work in
asking the downtown business district store owners for a donation and from other
sources, Jan was able to raise $3200 ... just by herself!
Dr. David Gill, candidate
for Congress in the 115th District, came and spoke about the epidemic, his
understanding of HIV disease & AIDS, and what he would do to help HIV+ persons
in Illinois. Bruce T. Lang spoke about the history of the AIDS epidemic,
how MCATF came to be, and gave some figures for the most recent data, which
indicates that there are
111 persons living with HIV in
McLean County. Denise & Josh spoke on how
their donations would affect clients and then we released 63 bio-degradable,
helium-filled balloons, which represented the 63 HIV+ clients that MCATF
currently serves (as of Spring 2006).
